As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
© irene waters 2014
This land was made
© irene waters 2015
for you and me.
© irene waters 2015
I’ve roamed
© irene waters 2015
and rambled
© irene waters 2015
and I followed my footsteps
© irene waters 2015
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
© irene waters 2015
And all around me
© irene waters 2015
a voice was sounding:
© irene waters 2015
This land
was made for you and me.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Wonderful captures!!!

Great photos that speak of adventure and getting out into the land and among people! The first shot is so wide-open-spaces. Love that feel of expansiveness!

When we were there we thought we have to get out of here quickly or the land would suck us in and we would never leave.

Yes it is barren country but so beautiful. No the girl isn’t me. A story attached there. She was angling for my boyfriend at the time and she invited me to go for a walk with her, just the two of us, in deliverance country. I was more than a wee bit concerned when she arrived with rifle in hand.

Thanks Barbara. Perhaps I should do a sunburnt country – I think Gerard posted the whole poem the other day.

Teary in a good way is good. I don’t know the origin of the song whether it is US or British but either way it is a tear jerker of a song. I am having so much fun with these song posts of Cee’s I really don’t want them to stop. 🙂
