I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

The Bull: Trog and Other Animals
We were now ready, in Darrell’s opinion, to purchase the bull. He was an old boy but still up to the job and most importantly quiet. Our newly installed loading ramp was not required as the bull was walked around … Continue reading
Feisty Trog Fearful: Trog and Other Animals
Trog’s reputation was gaining proportions appropriate to that of a lion. She seemed to have no fear as she attacked visiting cattle dogs, our own dog Mungo, and the cows when they were near the fence. Our guests were wary … Continue reading
The Donkeys Arrive:Trog and other Animals
Sean came and inspected our place to ensure its suitability for his girls. Passing the scrutiny, a day later they arrived. We had no choice but to offload them on the same hill that the cows had used. It was not … Continue reading
Mrs Wiggins: Trog and other Animals
“Not to worry” Darrell said when he heard about the loss of our pig. “I’ve got a lovely pig fer yer. A good baconer. Long and lean. She won’t try and get out. Fact is yer don’t have to pen … Continue reading
Two personalities: Trog and other Animals
By this time our farm stay was up and running. Our guests would arrive and see Mungo, our German Shepherd Dog, barking their arrival and Trog, tiny despite being fully grown, purring away. The most usual reaction varied between wariness … Continue reading
Farmers need Animals: Trog and other Animals
Having all this land and to prove we were farmers, we had to get some animals. The first of these to arrive were the chickens. These I purchased from an advertisement in the local paper “the Gloucester Advocate”. The produce … Continue reading
Wildlife: Trog and Other Animals
Mungo was a great asset when walking the paddocks, finding all wildlife possible. He had no desire to harm any of it but he certainly wanted me to see it. He would run off ahead and when a creature was … Continue reading
