There was a time, not that long ago
When onto the beach I could go
I could walk and run
and just have fun
I could eat an ice cream cone.
The change was sudden
It came as a shock
It took some time
to learn to walk a block.
Many tears did I shed
for a body lost and a life now spent.
But over time I’ve learnt to cope
I can walk now as quickly as most
despite my leg that throws itself
and a hand that won’t do as I wish.
Even though I cannot run
Again at least, I can have fun
Ice cream I now eat in a cup.
