I was really taken by this set of five granite etchings. They were strategically placed on the Kokoda Track Memorial Walk at Rhodes in Sydney. The track mimics (in a minimal way) the vegetation found in the Papua New Guinea Highlands and this is reflected off the granite. It may be lost in the detail of the etching but its very presence adds a realism that adds to the overall effect.

Did you see something else lost in the detail?

I ended my post in November 2013 with “Would I want to change my habits: no way.” It is interesting revisiting with my habits almost 5 years later. Have they changed? Yes they have just slightly. We no longer drink coffee as soon as we wake. Having an upstairs downstairs changed that in the first winter we lived here. We could not come to an agreement as to who would rise to get the drink. I no longer eat muesili but eat seeds in its place but I still have the yoghurt and read whilst eating it. Of course, we still walk the dog – only the name has changed as now it is only Muffin we walk.

I have developed a new ?habit or is it rather a hobby. Bird photography. I am trying to capture birds as close up as possible in their natural environment. Whenever I see a bird – out comes the camera. That, I guess, is a habit. My success, however, has not yet become habitual.

Barely seen in this first photo is a bridge I think has incredible beauty and diagonal lines. The Dartford bridge in the UK fills me with the same feeling as I get when driving over the Anzac Bridge.

In Australia we don’t get these blue hours (or if we do I am unaware of them). I think it must be something to do with the light in Europe. I have never seen in Europe the sharpness of the light we get here. All these blue hour photos were taken in Switzerland around Lac Leman (Lake Geneva).
