About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Do you know what the artist was trying to represent? This is a sculpture that doesn’t speak to me without some context. Makes for a great photo, though.

No, I have no idea but the thing as a whole did nothing for me I actually really liked the texture of it being up close. It took on a life of its own.

Art requires viewer participation – maybe your reaction was what the artist wanted.

Thanks. I am not sure how I am supposed to link – do you prefer twitter links or word press Thanks for a fun challenge. I love texture displaying it in photography can be a challenge.

I don’t mind at all, as long I get a heads up so I can link your participation the following week; commenting with a link, a ping back (making a link to my current Tuesday’s of Texture post in your post), tagging me in your tweet… just let me know about your post, that’s all. 🙂

The title of this made me want to gag but the sculpture is really cool.

Ha! I have to admit, I saw the title and was prepared for something plated. 😀 Great texture!

Thanks Sarah. I was pushing it to find a good title – a bit like a good first line. Perhaps this was not one.

Coming from Tue texture – love the snail ball statue! My goodness, most people who start as a nurse, remain a nurse until they retire early! Am almost overwhelmed with your job history. Is it your memoir you are writing? Success with your book:)

Thanks for coming by and sorry for my late reply. We’ve just moved and not had internet access. Yes I have just been to our 40 year reunion of finishing our training and of the thirty nine attendees I was one of three no longer working as a nurse. I couldn’t believe how many were still working full time. Yes it is my memoir I am writing. The first which will hopefully get published this year is about our time in Vanuatu. Cheers Irene

You’re still fast, considering you just moved! Hope you like living at your new place. Moved here two and a half years ago. Have still not unpacked some boxes, lol!

LOL. I hope to get mine unpacked quicker than that. I think a lot of stuff might have to go though.
