I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Bougainvillea is what I sometimes miss about living here in the Southern Highlands. But having spent a few days up north recently with the humidity and heat, we might just have to do with tulips, and daffodils. They are great photos and I would like to live surrounded by bougainvillea.

Sounds like they are doing well on your balcony M-R. Pots of colour. Watch those thorns though…… 🙂

You aren’t wrong Gerard. The humidity at the moment is at an all time high to match the unusually high temperatures we are having. Possibly it isn’t age but rather the heat that has made me more sedentary. I hadn’t thought of that. I’d love to have a paddock of tulips and daffodils. I tried when we lived in Gloucester but after the first year I didn’t even get a bloom. Bougainvillea is much more co-operative.

The beautiful boug is my favourite plant, Irene ! 🙂
I have two on my tiny balcony – a dull brown one that ends up pale pink before falling, and a white one. And I love them both madly !!!
I wish I could plant more of them: they’re so hardy, and so lovely, and now in such bewildering colours !!!
EXCELLENT from Sydney, my dear !!!

Dull brown sounds odd M-R. I like the red best and they seem to be the hardiest and most prolific flowerer. Then I like white but I was told to plant my white away from any coloured one as they would take up the colour close by. I don’t know whether that is true or not because I planted my white one a long way from the reds. Yes if you planted lots of them you’d never be able to go out on the balcony for the thorns. Ouch….. 🙂

I s’pose it’s really dark orange, in truth. Is that better ? The other week my white one produced a single purple brachet !!!!!

Maybe it is true then. Perhaps your really dark orange is supposed to be purple.
