Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

I called it purple flower because I simply did not know. Lassiandras were common in Forster but did not do well in Gloucester because of the cold, so they would probably do well up here. That was the long winded way of saying you are probably right….:)

Oh these are beautiful pictures. Out of curiosity I was just saying on another blog about how it’s the wrong time of year here in Aus. but in spring the Jacaranda are spectacular – do you have them around where you live?

Thanks. There are some up here but nothing to those in Grafton. I actually went through Grafton just after the jacaranda festival and took some photos. I’ll see if I can find them. Up here Spring and Autumn are definitely a great time for flowers. Summer is a bit hot for many and it is the foliage colours then which are great.

If you do find them please post them on your site. Living in up North now I miss them. We have the Flame Trees of course but it isn’t the same to me.

I’ll do that. I’ll try for Friday but it may take me longer to find them as I have to admit I haven’t seen them in my searching recently. Flame trees are lovely though. How far North are you?

Mackay but I hail from Brisbane then various parts of the world, back to Brisbane – on to Toowoomba (lovely but cold) and now Mackay where it looks as if we have found a landing pad after following the work/study fairy everywhere. You’re down south aren’t you?

Moved to Noosa 2 years ago from Gloucester NSW and many places before that. Gloucester was like Toowoomba – cold and we are enjoying the warmth although already we are talking of needing to move further north for the winter.

I love Noosa – used own an apartment there. My mothers partner Merton started the Noosa Gallery and I thinks they still have an association with it even though they are now in Toogoolawah just near Esk.
