Our dog walking park has become waterlogged. Today large puddles occupy the ground that normally is grass. The sight of this water takes a few years off the dogs as they can’t help but frolic in it, running and splashing with joy. I don’t have as much joy as I have two house guests under twelve. This weather has the opposite effect on them. “We’re bored.” As children, my brother and I frolicked like the dogs. We loved the puddles. Our favourite game was placing a live animal or insect on a leaf or twig and, using a blowing technique, race our boats across the puddle. Lung power. We didn’t give a thought to the creatures fear but we never let them drown, saving them if they fell off their vessel. Today apart from the dog’s antics I really enjoyed seeing the reflections where normally we would see shadows.

Tomorrow I anticipate the park will be a river. The rain continues to bucket down in torrential torrents and the prediction is for it to continue to do so all over Easter, the entire time I have my small guests.
In response to Paula’s Thursday Special.
About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Very nice photos Irene 😉
Times were different before the digital times as we have today and kids are used to get stimulated all day without they need to use their imagination in same way, as were usual for us.

You are right Irene. I don’t have an understanding of this as I don’t have a lot to do with children. Times are different and children have to be different to fit those times. Sad to think of imaginations being lost.

I agree and we can only try to get kids interested in the nature and do something together with them and then hope to wake up their interests for the nature in one or another way.

You are right Irene. I have now worked out an activity that should keep them and me occupied, hopefully happily, all day.

Wow. I originally thought it was a pond. I’m thinking our parks might look like that when all this snow melts.

Hope it melts soon for you and the daffodils spring up.

Some lovely shots there, my more northern neighbour !
Kids today are boring little ticks: they have no imagination.
(See why I never wanted any ?)

Oh it seemed only days ago you were posting beautiful blue skies…and now this 😦 The park looks so different with the flooding. We are in for a wet Easter too by all accounts, not a good weather report. I hope you have a lovely time with your brother and family, despite the rain. Lots of board games maybe? Difficult keeping youngsters amused. Floating insects sounds like fun though 🙂 And nice to know your dogs who are having a great time!! Happy Easter my friend, whatever the weather 🙂 ❤

Hope you too have a Happy Easter Sherri and that the rain isn’t too severe. We are back to blue skies today so kids are happy. They are off at a surf lesson now. 🙂

Wow….that’s a lot of rain, but at least you got some good reflection photos out of the deluge. Hope it dries up in time to take your little visitors out and about. Happy Easter. 🙂

Absolutely. Despite the forecast it has been dry at least so sand and beach have been on the agenda. Yeah. 🙂 Have a Happy Easter

Our rainy seasons might be synced, except rain gave way to some unexpected snow the day after Easter. Oh, I was like you and your brother — the outdoor world was my playground! i made dolls out of pine cones. Hope your young guests found inspiration.

Luckily the weather improved and didn’t give us the predicted week of rain. Even so I heard numerous times I’m bored from the younger one so we started writing a book. He did the art work and I’m doing the writing. Another WIP.
