About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

  5. Irene, my friend, here at last and I don’t know why I have not been getting notifications of your posts but I have missed too many since your return. Wonderful to see you back again with your happy pics and posts! ❤

    • Lovely to see you over here Sherri. I finally made it back and found that WP had changed significantly and I have had to learn how to do stuff again. It is nice to be back but like you it will be on and off as life happens. I have found that reader only shows me a few people and I haven’t tackled that yet. Keep well my friend and we should have a good virtual walk and talk soon.

      • Lovely to be here again with you Irene, I have missed you greatly! I am still using the old WP editor but know I will need to learn the new one soon. Keep putting it off…! Yes, it’s going to be very much on and off but we will find a way to walk no matter what. Thanks again, Irene, you take good care my friend, keep well and safe and we’ll talk soon >3

      • I tried it before I left and changed back but decided to give it another go as they said it will be the only editor available soon and they have improved it immensely so take the plunge and give it another go. Look forward to talking soon. Good luck with your submissions

      • Yes, I will take a look soon. I’ve just put my sign off post up as I’m a running a bit burned out at the moment. Thanks so much, Irene. I’ll keep in touch. Big hugs ❤

      • Hope you rejuvenate Sherri. Burn out is not a lot of fun. I am posting when I can and when I can’t I am not stressing about it. Takes the pressure off a lot. It sometimes means that I can’t visit as much as I’d like and slow with the comments but again I can’t stress about it. Too much else going on that I don’t need to add an additional burden. Enjoy your break. Will talk soon. Hugs ❤️

      • Hi Irene, huge apologies for my massively last reply. I signed off end of June and only just returning now, with a huge amount of catch up to do. So glad you’re not stressing about blogging, doing what you can manage. You are right, there is way too much else behind the scenes that is more important. What is great you are back when you can. As am I, though like you, rather intermittent at the moment. I look forward so much to walking and talking again soon. I have missed you a lot. I’m still working on that other round of revisions and edits. 7 years and counting and I wonder when I will ever get this memoir accepted and published, but have yet to start my second round of agent submissions. Hopefully by late September. Trying not to get too despondent and keep going…you know how it is. Take care, my friend. Big hugs ❤

      • Hope all is well with you Sherri and we can get that walk in soon.Don’t get despondent Sherri. Don’t they say good things come to those that wait – so if you work at it as well you have to get there. Big hugs. Stay well.

      • Thanks Sherri. Strange how when you break the daily pattern just how hard it is to get back to it. Still I’m not going to stress over that. Love to have a chat soon.
