Welcome and come on in. Would you like tea or coffee or with the heat we are having perhaps you would like a cold drink. To tell you the truth we are lucky where we are. South of us are in the midst of a heat wave. Temperatures there have been consistently in the high 40’s for over a week. I emailed a friend who told me she would reply later – they had gone camping in the Barrington Tops to try to escape the heat – and she is someone who loves the heat. We are getting beautiful 28 – 31 degrees during the day. If you ask me that is perfect. What I would like is some rain. We are getting very dry.
This week has felt very quiet with our visitors gone although I have been busy with medical stuff for my Mum and of course my book. Nightmare in Paradise. I am organising a road trip, literary lunch, book launch and today I had my first book signing.

I can’t say I was rushed off my feet but I did sell double the number that our ex Prime Minister did a couple of weeks earlier when he took up the same position. At times I felt as though I was an Egyptian market seller that the tourists avoided eye contact with. You can’t engage people if you don’t have that initial contact between eyes. At least I can’t. If I was extroverted I probably could but I’m not. I have learnt from this experience that a sign saying Talk to the author – you don’t have to buy anything – she is bored. would probably have had more people having a chat and that would have been good as the time did at times go a bit slowly.
I have also started on my next project which involves interviewing a 91 year old nurse who had an interesting life. So far I’m not sure where I will go with this or if I will get enough information to use because at that age the memory does start to have some holes.
Despite having a lot more free time I don’t know where it goes. I still haven’t managed to finish a book and I haven’t seen any films.

I agree – Irene or a politician – not a hard decision there. I’d want to get you talking about how do things like book signings and other promotion effort. I have nothing in my experience that I see as prep for such things. I’m glad and not surprised that your signing went so well.

I am planning on doing a series on what my process was after finishing the manuscript starting in the next few weeks. As an introvert, for me this has been the hardest part and unless you make an effort your book is likely to sit on the shelves.

Well done for getting onto the next stage and going for the sale and book signing. Not easy, even for an extrovert. It’s been pretty hot here but a welcome cool change arrived yesterday. What a relief! I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody this week and absolutely loved it. Was in tears at the end. I drove my 12 year old daughter there to see it with her friends and sat by myself. That was okay but I felt quite emotional at the end. Bit teary but my daughter is too young to know what the AIDS epidemic in Sydney was like and how many people died. It was awful.
We’re about to head off to photograph the car. Stay tuned.

Yes I loved Bohemian Rhapsody also. It is on again at our local theatre once a day but quite late at night. I’m tempted to pop out for a bit. Yes those early days of AIDS were just dreadful. You have probably posted the car by now so will pop around to check.

I’m tempted to go back to see Bohemian Rhapsody again. Our son hasn’t seen it and he loves Queen. It would be nice to go to the movies with him too.
Hope you have a great weekend. Not too sure what to make of Australia Day anymore except that it signals the end of the school holidays and that jolt of back to school when we have to be magically organized again. Did the uniform shop and got the lad a haircut yesterday so we’re at least heading the right direction.

Australia Day is another matter. I don’t know anyone who celebrates it – it is just another day off work for most. Roger did become a citizen on Australia Day so that is a plus – just like you heading in the right direction.

Your project of interviewing the 91 year old nurse sounds fascinating. Even with holes in the memory I imagine the stories she shares will be great. I miss sitting and talking with the older members of my family because of the stories and the history in some of those stories. So interesting.
As you know from visiting my coffee share this week, photographs are one of my topics and I like how you mark the bottom of yours and I might follow suit if you don’t mind. And your book signing photo’s look great.

Me, I am always reading. This weekend I completed a book and will start another read before bedtime. It is cold here so it is the perfect weather to cuddle up and read.

I prefer to attend author events that involve a few authors, Irene. It is much more fun and at least you can have a good catch up when its slow. Well done on this event, it is hard the first time.

I have a few joint or multiple author events planned for the future but some I had to do it by myself. I think the joint ones, as you say, will be much more fun.
