Noosa has over 100 roundabouts with many being multi laned and one set of traffic lights. I love them but then I know where I am going. The direction “All other Destinations” is fine until you find yourself totally lost. I need more than two hands to count the number of times that I have been stopped whilst dog walking being asked directions and being told they have been driving around in circles for a long time. I must admit they have added a little additional information to some of them (the brown bits) and with smart phones having maps this is perhaps not the problem it was when we first moved here and is one of the oddities of Noosa that I like.

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

I live in a small town and recently a couple roundabouts were added nearby, much to the dismay of many locals. Everyone argued that there’d be more accidents because people don’t know how to use them but I believe we’ve had fewer accidents and people learn pretty quickly to use them! They’re definitely a little rough when you don’t know where you’re going. I once was a passenger on a roundabout in Washington D.C. that looked like the inside of a spiderweb, we went around it 2-3 times (driver, passenger, and GPS!) before finding the right way, man, was that an adventure!
I think the more signs the better, as long as they’re clear and easy to read.

Yes I love the roundabouts. They tend to move much more freely and you don’t waste time waiting at lights which will turn red when there is no reason to do so. We do struggle with non locals who don’t know the indication rules of roundabout driving but you just have to assume that no-one is doing what their blinker says they’re doing until the car’s turning makes it obvious.
I agree – signage is very helpful on the whole.

We like the roundabouts. It makes more sense than the stop signs in this country. In residential areas, we make too many stops. It’s especially hard when driving stick shift cars.

“All Other Destinations” sounds like an exciting roundabout exit as well.

Some are better than others LOL! Sometimes engineers get too carried away with including too many lanes, exits, etc. I can’t say I like roundabouts, but can see the need for them! (psst—I’m most likely one of those people who has interrupted your dog-walking with an appeal for directions!)

Haha. They work well here because during the day they can be busy but there are long periods where there is little traffic. Most are well designed.

I remember when Noosa had one main street and a couple off that and there was hardly any traffic 😀

And it probably wasn’t that long ago 25 years? I would have loved to have visited then. I have spoken to a few people that moved here when it was like that and it sounds wonderful.
