“Tristan what are you doing?” Ben watched his friend bag another raven.
“They say when the ravens leave the tower the monarchy will end. They’ve both been here centuries. Obviously they need a little help.”
“You’re rav’in mad mate. Why do you want the monarchy gone anyways?”
Tristan was silent as he netted his fourth raven. “I don’t but I’m a researcher and I’m going to prove or disprove this theory. Only three more and if the hypothesis is correct the monarchy will be over. I wonder how it’ll happen.”
“Lets hope it doesn’t. Imagine a President for life.”

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Oh my days! If the president is anything like the current US one, then please… leave the ravens alone! We can’t have you disproving theories with that risk!!!

I watched a show about ‘those’ Ravens and how they have their own protection guard.
Amazing how superstitions prevail even in modern times.
Guess the idea being ‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’.
Kind of odd I think that any royalty still exists. I can only hope that in the next voting process (without any presumed or assumed tampering) will change the current US leadership.
Presidents are almost like royalty, but there are exceptions. The First Family actually has to pay for some of their own basic needs. But not enough – every town they visit has to provide the security for the most part. A challenge that and most of it comes out of the public pocket. Can you spell ‘Taxation?’ But then freedom isn’t free…
Science is always trying to prove or disprove the unexplained. Amazing though that science has worked out curing some cancers from within the individuals own systems (at least that is what one of the latest commercials in our area says…)

I don’t think we are so far removed from many superstitions of yesteryear. Time will tell and the people will speak but I whether the (to me) strange college system you have over there allows for change only time will tell.
Thanks for that info re paying their own way. I didn’t know that. A pity the public purse cannot be kept for those who truly need it but then it would be argued that the country needs a president that is safe.
I have a friend who was given a very short time to live and they put him on a drug trial where the drug puts a marker on the cancer cell and the body’s own immune system can then recognise it as an abnormal cell and do the fighting of the cancer itself. My friend is now cancer free. Just amazing stuff.

The same commercials boast about returning sight to the sightless with their own eyes! But medical research doesn’t pay for itself…

No it doesn’t pay for itself and that can become the subject of an ethical debate which I won’t get into right now.
I did hear though just yeterday that stem cells are going to replace fillings as they will be put in the cavity and will repair the tooth from within. Imagine – no more drilling and I can’t imagine the dentist being able to be any more expensive – it could even be cheaper.

I can barely imagine another 3 years of the current US presidency. Poor ravens – awful job they have.

They played a tape on our news of your president saying how he was so impressed with the good thing the Chinese were doing by not limiting the presidency to two terms and he wouldn’t rule out a similar happening in the States. Our newscaster said it was unknown whether the comment was said in jest but it sent shivers up my spine.
