Perhaps it is to protect the tree from possums climbing or some other creature eating the bark – but I don’t really know. Perhaps it was just Christmas Decoration.

This is a ‘thing,’ knitters or crocheters covering large things. Unfortunately, I think this one is pretty ugly. Definitely not an improvement over nature, in spite of all the work that went into it.

I’d never seen anything like it before. Not my cup of tea and struck me as bizarre. Perhaps this is what frustrated doily makers are creating now doilys are passé.

It’s called ‘yarn-bombing’ and I love it on inanimate things like bicycles but loathe it on natural things like trees… don’t they need to ‘breathe’? And won’t the dye in the fabric maybe run in the rain and stain the bark? But don’t mind me, that’s just my inner-grumbler at work!)

A statement, I think, but imagine that much energy used to make sweaters for the elderly, hats for the homeless, booties for newborns. The tree probably itches.

You are so right Sharon. That is exactly what this person should be doing. My Mum is knitting for refugees and any disaster that may occur where warm things are wanted and she has someone who takes the finished article. I should put a note on the tree.
