Jenny and Brian did everything together. Well, not quite everything as they didn’t go out on the dates Brian had with other women or those Jenny had with other men. They shared them afterwards, helping to extricate each other from the difficult ones when necessary. That was, until Brian wrecked everything with his marriage proposal.
Jenny stood, frozen with jealousy for the unknown woman, and said “Brian, what about us?”
“Jen, but we’re just good mates.”

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Good one. Ya turned a good twist.

Thanks. Short short is difficult so glad it worked.

You do flash all the time! You always make it work. It is different counting sentences as opposed to words though. My six sentence stories are usually much longer than the 99 word flashes, but I went short this week too.

I find complex sentences difficult to read as I keep thinking there should be a full stop there or the like. Because of this I try to keep my sentences a normal length but also fit a story into the six. I therefore, find these shorts much harder than the 99 or 100 word flashes I do. I’m happy to hear that you think mine work says the writer who is always on the lookout for reassurance.

That was quite a surprise, Irene. Did not see it coming. Neither did Jenny.

LOL Six sentences is not a lot to create a story – it had to end with a bang.

6 sentence story, I like the idea. You did a wonderful job with such a limited amount of writing space!

Thank you. It is difficult and it really makes you kill your darlings and a lot of other stuff as well.

Isn’t that the worst feeling! When one half of a relationship has more than platonic feelings for the other. Hope Brian’s soon to be wife is as good a friend to him as Jenny has always been 😀

I agree. I don’t think Jenny realised what she felt until the girlfriend became permanent.

LOL. I thought there was an emoticon for everything. I just don’t understand what they mean and probably often shock those I send them to with the message that is hidden to me. Thank you for enjoying.
