“Don’t be ridiculous. You’d need lots of employees for it to work and who would hire someone to stand in a line for them?” Beckett said, frowning.
“It would work. The average British adult spends 67 hours a year queuing. Think what you could do if you had even half that time back. Look I’ve done some pie charts.”
“Bly! Look up there. See the apple, rhubarb and I think that could be a meat one.”
“I love rhubarb pie.”

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

Thank you. Yes even when pies are in the sky you can still grab them. She’ll make a success of it I’m sure and if not she’ll at least enjoy her rhubarb pie.

I love the shift of reality you insert into this flash. And I am horrified by your statistic on queuing. Reminds me of part of a discussion I heard on public radio yesterday. Seems that those people who spend money outsourcing certain tasks like cleaning instead of just saving the money show greater levels of happiness. Time trumps money. So I just might hire someone to stand in line for me!

Glad you enjoyed it Jeanne. Sometimes what I mean gets lost as it travels the ocean. Yes it is quite horrifying how many hours we waste doing unsatisfying necessities. Interesting your radio pointing out a study. I think I might look for that and put a proposal to my husband for cleaning and line standing. You and I can then spend more time doing what we enjoy most. Have you a writing project now you have finished with your doctor?
