Heritage comes from old French meaning able to be inherited. We inherit from our forebears looks, characteristics, property and culture. It also denotes items from the past considered worthy of protection such as heritage buildings, UNESCO sites. It is also used to refer to old breeds of animals and seeds that have not been modified from olden times such as heritage roses. Above are some examples of heritage in response to the Weekly Photo Challenge.

Irene, this photo essay exhibits the contrast of the esteemed of nature and of mankind. Each endures in its unique way, each bequeaths to the future its essence of rarity.
I especially love the first four, which I think are your father’s grave, him reading to his daughter, his study, and family photos in your childhood home – the perfect emblem of heritage.

Yes some of them were very old as the collecting went back before my parents time and they were avid readers. We were surrounded by books when I was growing up – I was so lucky.
