The five words that Paula has used to stimulate our creativity in March are:
commanding, coarse, gibbous, incremental and
indelible

Almost full, neither waxing or waning, the gibbous moon floats

illuminating the road, whilst the internal light display shows the incremental increases in speed, the revs building up until the optimum is reached.

The gibbous moon is loathe to leave as morning breaks. The hovering balloons have a commanding position to see the sea, the moon and the waking city below.

Soon we are walking along the coarse sand, leaving our footprints and paw prints in amongst the pellets the sand bubbler crab has scoured for the almost indigestible, inedible material they have found.

But what we want is something indelible and cruising in Milford sound certainly fits the bill, giving unforgettable memories. No wonder New Zealand’s commander in chief, stood tall, proud of his country of scenic beauty that, early in its history recognised the rights of the indigenous people— now stands with a commanding view over the nations capital, memorialised.

In response to Paula’s prompt for this week’s Thursday’s Special
About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

FANTASTIC! The way you weave my words in your story is always impressing and such fun. This is a very unusual statue for a commander. I thought that only gods were depicted in nude, but this chap look really good from the rear. Another shot that I must single out is your coarse – it is both abstract and very real and palpable in the same time. I am leaving very happy. THANK YOU, Irene!

I’m glad you left happy. I always enjoy your prompts as I find them a great creative challenge. Until you pointed it out I hadn’t thought about the PM’s nudity – now I can only think how bizarre to depict him that way. Perhaps he was commanding in more ways than one and did attain godlike status.

Loved them all. The balloon shot is excellent; not least because of being in the right place at the right time for the shot.

Thank you. Yes I had to wake up early for that one. It felt as though only those in the balloon and I were awake in an otherwise sleeping land.

Inventive incorporation of five random words with six outstanding photos that show sky, sea, land, and man’s marks on the world down under – very well done, Irene. Much imagination present.
