From today I may be absent apart from the odd day until February. I will try and post a topic for Times Past but as internet access will be limited January may be missed or late. We board the Emerald Princess at midday tomorrow to circumnavigate New Zealand. After the stress of the last year I am looking forward to boarding and being forced to relax. There will be extremely limited internet access and I will spend the time reading, promenading on the poop deck and taking part in everything that is going. As tomorrow is our wedding anniversary it will be like a second honeymoon.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that on our return we will be moving into temporary accommodation and then I will be doing some work on my creative work. Yes I finally had my thesis back from the examiners. Both liked my exegesis ( the scholarly work) but only one liked my creative work. The one who didn’t asked for major changes and I will be working on these or on my explanation as to why I am not changing it. This will be fairly easy as the two examiners held such disparate views of the work. I think that it will tighten it up and make it better so I am not worried but I will have to devote some time to it. Hopefully by the time I finish this we will be ready to make our permanent move.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and I hope the New Year brings you peace, happiness, health and safety.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
