I have never associated twilight with Australia although of course we must have them. That period when day is no longer day but it is not yet night. Mostly, I think of them as sunsets. The colour is not as vibrant as that in Europe at twilight although spectacular in its own way.

Lake Menindee in Far western NSW near Broken Hill. A huge inland lake.

“Twilight fell: The Sky turned to a light, dusky purple littered with tiny silver stars.” J.K. Rowling described how I found the twilight at Lake Annecy in France.

Whilst in Switzerland the dusky blue/purple extended to Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) bringing to mind Sharon Penman’s words ” Twilight was laying claim to the city and the sky was a deepening shade of lavender, spangled with stars and fleecy clouds the colour of plums.”

Not quite the colour of plums but still a wonderful twilight.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Such beautiful scenes and so well described. It is a magical time of night when peace seems to hover.

A beautiful oasis surrounded by desert. As a result the days are very hot, the nights can be quite cool. 🙂

Wow, this is such a generous entry. I agree with Cardinal. the first shots are literally breathtaking, but I love Lac Leman too. Thank you, Irene. When you were writing on my post, I did not realise that you already have an offering, and what an offering it is! 🙂 Days must be quite long where you are. Enjoy the sunshine!

The days are certainly getting longer but where I live doesn’t have daylight saving time so we never have the day intruding into night as you do in the Northern Hemisphere and to a lesser degree the states that are south of us.Glad you enjoyed my twilights.
