A dribble, a trickle

Or metres into the air

Fountains bubble and spurt

whether modern or ancient

They entice, calming savage minds.

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.

    What fabulous photos – you did great job, Irene. I love water, the sight of it, the way it feels and sounds, even frozen!
    Oddly, I’m a terrible swimmer.

    5th photo down – when were you in Solothurn? I have been living here for the past 47 years, although the past 20 years just along the road in the village of Feldbrunnen. The fountain is in the main square – cannot remember the name, we have 11 fountains but my youngest son (now 41 years old) remembers it well as it is the fountain where the students have their christening session for their student name. Sometime in the evening the students march to the fountain with the victim dressed in bathing trunks and he is thrown in with ceremony and everything. Thanks for the photo, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it.

      We were there in 2006. My brother lives in Geneva so we go to Switzerland fairly regularly although we haven’t been for awhile. My sister in law lives in Germany and the route we took from Geneva to her took us through Solothurn. I’m glad you wrote because to be truthful although I knew what trip it was on and that it was in Switzerland I didn’t remember what town I took it in. The Swiss seem to have ceremonies for many things. I can imagine your surprise when you saw it.

        It certainly did surprise me as I really never expected it. The funny thing is I almost posted a photo of it myself, but decided to avoid the fountains of Solothurn as there are so many. By train Solothurn lays on the direct line between Zürich and Geneva, so you would pass through our town.
