As we look into the future

We’ll be lucky if it is all brightness and light

More than likely there will be hurdles to cross

at times it will be a downhill run

or we may get into deep water

feel it’s a steep road to climb

At other times we may just be in the moment

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Irene, your photo essay is moving and touching. Your words grasp the essence of how we feel about seeking future, your pictures present the images we treasure, and together they represent the human condition. We know we won’t be here forever but want to ensure that future generations can make their bid for what inspires and is meaningful to them. This one sticks. Thanks for a great segue to the weekend.
Shortly I will light Shabbat candles – and I’ll have this in my mind.

Thank you Sharon. I’m glad I’m part of your segue into the weekend and your words are a great reflection of what I was hoping to convey. I’ll think of you lighting your candles and hope you have a lovely weekend.

Hi Irene, I’m nominating you to take part in the Seven Day Nature Photo Challenge. All you have to do is post one nature photo a day for 7 days and nominate someone else each of those days. I would say if you don’t want to nominate someone every day that this is optional! See your nomination here: https://judydykstrabrown.com/2016/04/09/sunset-in-lake-chapala-seven-day-nature-photo-challenge-day-4/
