(20 photos) It was a real treat for me this particular trip to Europe. My mother not only took me first class as she needed care on the flight but my brother showed me a life that I only see in the movies. It was a real treat for me waking up to this view in the morning from the hotel.

And the hotel was such a magnificent building with decor to match.

At the same time it was coming up to Halloween and the village of Glion was well prepared for the event which used to be a non event in Australia.

For my nephews it was a real treat preparing their own pumpkin.

These were a variety of pumpkin that I had never seen in Australia and I may be wrong but I think that people don’t eat this variety and use it soley for carving at Halloween. I’m sure that some enterprising farmer has twigged in Australia now that Halloween is becoming more popular.

It looked spectacular placed outside in the dark lit with a candle.

Another treat for me was seeing my nephew’s face light up when on the merry-go-round.

I can’t believe that the treat of first class travel was captured in one shot only and it had to be blurred. It was a treat that will never be forgotten and unlikely never to be repeated.

I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Wow! What a spectacular hotel, so old world, especially to an American. What was the food that you liked so much? I can’t tell what it was. Glad you had such special holiday.

One was snails and I would have said that I would not like snails but this was just divine. The other was a dessert – a chocolate tube, creme brulée and some other concoction with a lovely sauce. In other words I really don’t know but it was delectable. It was a great holiday.

It was a once in a lifetime experience and it was lovely family time as well. A perfect combination and well enjoyed. The trip to Europe from here is such a long haul that we put off going but this one was a piece of cake.

Traveling enlarges us, even the hard parts make trips memorable. Having the experience with loved ones gives us common memories and draws us closer. 🙂

I can’t believe Halloween has gone to other countries. Sigh. Your trip sounds wonderful. When I saw the title of your post, my first thoughts were, “Chocolate, cheese, a/o mountains.” 🙂

They were there too. Halloween is only just making an appearance in Australia but Switzerland seemed to have embraced it totally.

Spectacular trip, Swiss treats, indeed! The boys did well on their carvings. You can eat the seeds if you toast them in the oven. I grow the smaller and sweeter pie pumpkins. I’m surprised that Halloween has been a non-event in Australia, though.

I think it was because it was Saturday this year. Since we have lived here the Mum’s come and put a balloon in the letter box and if you want the kids to call you put it out. As their is no postal delivery on Saturday I don’t think they bothered as few look in their letter box. It also coincided with the Noosa Triathlon which is a huge event. (Won by some chap from the US who did it in a record time of just over 1 hour.) Saturday night was party night and I think that made Halloween here a non event.
