In Australia the sensible always wear head protection when out in the sun. Good protection against skin cancers and melanomas. The problem I find is that they make my head so hot so half the time I throw sensibility to the wind and just wear sun screen.

That is my choice though and babies should always be protected.

I don’t know that this classifies as a hat. My husband and I argue over this kind of dilemma. Like shoes, I take hats to cover all types of head covering whereas he would say a hat is something with a crown and brim. In this case I just wonder at what on earth I was thinking going to a fancy dress supposedly as a skeleton and my swimming hat my skull. How embarrassing. I actually went out like that.

Fancy dress is always fun. I haven’t been to one for ages. Note to self – plan a fancy dress in the near future. The hat below is almost invisible as it melds into the fur and my own hair.

Love the hats!I loved to wear hats when I was growing up but now find them a pain because they give me “bed head” and are hot, so I wear a visor for protection for my face. Hats for kiddos, though, definitely.

I once made papier mache hats so my hubby and I could attend a Halloween party as Coneheads, the Martians “From France” who were the stars of many Saturday Night Live skits about 40 years ago. Not having planned well enough, the papier mache was still wet, so our coneheads weighed about 10 pounds each and we had headaches all night long. Just came across the photo, will see if I can figure out how to squeeze it into the computer.

I love the photos of the hats in the shed, the one of you wearing the swimming cap (funny history on that one too), and the last one. You showed quite a variety of hats.

The shed was a strange place as you couldn’t help but imagine all the different people who had worn them. It was like resurrecting ghosts. The skeleton – cringeworthy LOL
