Back in the days when I fended for myself my food did not have the same appeal as it has done since my husband has taken over the cooking. Did it taste bad. Maybe now I would say yes although I still enjoy a can of baked beans or sardines I will admit it is not the same taste sensation as that of the meals my husband prepares for me.

And yes – you’re right. It tasted not good but delicious.

About Irene Waters 19 Writer Memoirist
I began my working career as a reluctant potato peeler whilst waiting to commence my training as a student nurse. On completion I worked mainly in intensive care/coronary care; finishing my hospital career as clinical nurse educator in intensive care. A life changing period as a resort owner/manager on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu was followed by recovery time as a farmer at Bucca Wauka. Having discovered I was no farmer and vowing never again to own an animal bigger than myself I took on the Barrington General Store. Here we also ran a five star restaurant. Working the shop of a day 7am - 6pm followed by the restaurant until late was surprisingly more stressful than Tanna. On the sale we decided to retire and renovate our house with the help of a builder friend. Now believing we knew everything about building we set to constructing our own house. Just finished a coal mine decided to set up in our backyard. Definitely time to retire we moved to Queensland. I had been writing a manuscript for some time. In the desire to complete this I enrolled in a post grad certificate in creative Industries which I completed 2013. I followed this by doing a Master of Arts by research graduating in 2017. Now I live to write and write to live.
Your husband cooks? I am so jealous!

I am so lucky. If I had to cook he wouldn’t be near as lucky.

Can I just ask in that second picture is that a hotdog in the ice cream? It is ice cream isn’t it? Maybe chowder….OK is that a hot dog in the chowder?

Chowder style stuff out of a can. I thankfully can’t remember what it tasted like but it looked yuk.

Maybe it is a bread stick and not a hot dog.

No it is a sausage. I don’t know what you term a hot dog but here it is a type of sausage.

Looked again and realized that you only know how to cook white food. That could be a limitation. 😀

We have now gone on the paleo diet. Plenty of red stuff now where before we hardly ever ate red meat.

You are like my daughters! How I enjoyed their company in the kitchen and they relished eating “Mumsie’s” food, but they never picked up the skills. One married a baker, the other is dating a chef. My son…now he can cook! He was always interested in my recipes and I sent him my favorite cookbook (with old and stained pages) for his birthday and you would have thought I bought him a luxury car he was so excited!

That is a lovely story Charli. How nice that he valued your cook book so highly. I think these days more men than women cook.

My husband does the daily cooking – I gave up after 25 years! My daughter still requests various things for me to cook when she comes home, though! Your husband’s dishes look yummy!
